The full brother to Black Caviar, Moshe, has been retired after a career that spanned just five race starts.

The galloper displayed promising results during his short career, winning three of his five runs.

Moshe, who is just four-year-old, was retired after contracting a severe throat infection that was deemed to be career-ending.

The Bel Esprit gelding entire was purchased for $75,000 from the 2009 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne before his full sister Black Caviar had her first race start.

Black Caviar has now gone on to win all 16 of her race starts and has earned close to $4.3 million in prize money.

Moshe is now expected to go and stand at stud from next year’s 2012 season and is likely to be in high demand given the hype surrounding Black Caviar.

Part-owner Roy Higgins confirmed that Moshe would stand at stud next season.

Higgins also told of the media hype surrounding Moshe after Black Caviar became popular, saying it was difficult to handle.

The former jockey was disappointed Moshe was never given the opportunity to show his true ability at Group level.

The horse’s most commanding win was in his first race start, when he won the Monaco Sound Plate 3yo Maiden by an incredible six lengths at Bendigo.

Moshe was trained by Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes at Rosehill in Sydney and despite his short career accumulated more than $63,000 in prize money for his grateful owners.
