Black Caviar backed up trainer Peter Moody’s claims that she is in the best condition of her career by easily extending her phenomenal unbeaten streak to 24 in the William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley tonight.

The six-year-old was flawless in the four-length romp, stalking the lead of stablemate Karuta Queen before jockey Luke Nolen pushed the button rounding the home turn.

In a showcase of equine perfection, the world’s best sprinter was clean in her action and quickly, and almost effortlessly, put a gap on her six rivals in the straight.

Nolen eased her down well clear of the finishing post as Karuta Queen fought gamely to claim runner-up honours from Fawkner in third place.

It was Black Caviar’s 14th Group 1 win, equalling the mark of the legendary Kingston Town who dominated Australian racing in the early 1980s.

Moody said he was “lost for words” following the superstar’s latest conquest, confirming his opinion that she is as keen as ever to continue her racing career.

“It was just super,” Moody said.

“I’ve thought that [she’s at her best] for a while and she’s proved me right twice in a row now.

“It’s just great to see the people out here and to see her put on a wonderful show.”

While Moody has not ruled out another campaign, the win was possibly her last in Victoria as she will now head to Sydney to tackle the TJ Smith (1200m) at Randwick on April 13.

Moody said only wet tracks will stop Black Caviar continuing her brilliant career at the Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Nolen described it as a feeling of relief to get another win out of the way but echoed Moody’s thoughts that the great mare is still at the top of her game.

“You just want to get it over and done with and she didn’t disappoint anyone here tonight,” Nolen said.

“She felt amazing to me. I’ve probably got blinkers on, I’m a little biased when it comes to Black Caviar but she felt good.”
