The doubters and critics came out of the woodwork during the week but champion mare Black Caviar has sent them scurrying back into hiding after extending her unbeaten streak to 25 in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick today.

It was the strongest field the six-year-old has faced in some time but just like in her previous 24 outings, it wasn’t strong enough.

Starting from the inside, which many said was a disadvantage, the world’s number one galloper jumped well as a sell-out crowd at Randwick nervously watched on.

Rain Affair set a frantic pace in front but Black Caviar was a picture of glamour, grace and bulging equine muscle as she got her big engine moving.

Jockey Luke Nolen made a deliberate move to to pull her away from the inside and she sat just behind the lead of Rain Affair before Nolen gave her a shake up shortly after entering the straight.

But the jockey didn’t have to do too much on the all-conquering horse who got her big stride going and quickly left a classy field of sprinters battling on behind her, passing the post three lengths clear of Epaulette and Bel Sprinter.

Trainer Peter Moody has always maintained that nothing can beat his stable star at her best and was happy to share her remarkable ability with the Sydney public.

“I’m just really pleased that she’s put on one hell of a show for the big crowd that has come out here,” Moody said.

“Sydney hasn’t had the pleasure as much as Victoria. I’m just really proud of her to bring the show on the road.

“She’s a mighty horse. She’s broken three or four records here again today. Twenty five straight, 15 Group 1s. What more can you say? Horses look fast until they line up beside her.”

Moody said he will wait until the dust settles before sitting down with connections and deciding the next destination the mare will grace with her imposing presence.

The leading Victorian trainer resisted having a shot at her knockers but jockey Luke Nolen was happy to fire a barb on behalf of Black Caviar.

“They didn’t protect her in Sydney and she still kicked their arse,” Nolen said.

“I wanted to get to full speed shortly after getting to the top of the rise and let them chase me.

“It was close to her most rounded performance. She wasn’t a protected species today, she had to earn it. If there are any knockers after that, come and see me and I’ll sort you out.”

Today’s win was Black Caviar’s 15th at Group 1 level, eclipsing the record of of the legendary Kingston Town.
