Black Caviar vs Sepoy – still possible!

Black Caviar

A showdown between Black Caviar (pictured) and Sepoy could still be on in the Patinack Farm Classic

The clash of the decade between Black Caviar and Sepoy is still a possibility after both horses were left in the 2011 $1m Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic(1200m) at Flemington on November 5 when final acceptances where released today.

The champ and the star were two of just 14 runners left in the race which has always been on the Black Caviar’s agenda but not that of Sepoy.

Trainer Peter Snowden is aiming Sepoy at the $500,000 Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 29 but the door is still open for a change of  mind.

If Black Caviar wins the Schweppes Stakes at Moonee Valley on Saturday she will be chasing her 16th straight victory at Flemington.

The champion mare is one of two Australian Racehorses of the Year still in the Patinack Farm Classic with comeback sprinter Scenic Blast also featuring.

The Western Australian galloper, won the 2009 title but hasn’t raced in Australia since March 2009 due to campaigns in the UK and USA.

Scenic Blast last raced in the US in November last year. He is scheduled to resume in the Group 2 Schweppes Stakes (1200m) on Saturday at Moonee Valley.

Black Caviar’s trainer Peter Moody has five horses in the Patinack entries with Doubtful Jack, Curtana, Panipique and Mid Summer Music adding to his strength.

Happy Zero, Response, Buffering plus three-year-olds Foxwedge and Emerald Downs are still in.

The field for the 2011 $1m Crown Oaks (2500m) was virtually decided today when only 20 remained in the latest order of entry release.

The Group 1 blue riband run on November 3 at Flemington has a field of 16 starters and four emergencies.

The usual last minute hustle to gain a spot in the field won’t happen this year though the traditional Oaks preview, the 2011 $300,000 Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 29 will again be a pointer to the Oaks winner.

Even that race many believe is unnecessary in view of the Oaks winner with the brilliant Caulfield 1000 Guineas winner Atlantic Jewel dominating Oaks betting.

The field in order of entry is: Mosheen, Pane In The Glass, Atlantic Jewel, Gliding, Dowager Queen, Sharnee Rose, Roma Giaconda, Shuswap,  Rahveel, Thawaabet, Quench The First,Vittoria, Fallen One,Gioe, Lady Jouster, Pentimento, Flame Of Lanka, Rosini, When My Baby and La Dolce Diva.

The final four horses Flame Of Lenka, Rosini, When My Baby and La Dolce Diva will be the emergencies unless they earn prizemoney which could get them into the top 16.
