Black Caviar To Face Eight In Lightning Stakes

As expected Black Caviar will back up for the Lightning Stakes this Saturday with Peter Moody taking the gamble on the drop back from 1400m.

His reasoning all week has been her love of the Flemington straight and he said were it anywhere else he wouldn’t be doing it.

In fantastic news for racegoers a field of nine will line up in the Lightning Stakes for what many are calling the biggest test of Black Caviar’s career.

Hay List is one of them, the bulking sprinter to come in first up and not head to the Oakleigh Plate as was suggested.

He’ll be joined by talented Queenslander Buffering, Group 1 champion Lone Rock, straight track specialist Temple Of Boom and top three year old Foxwedge as the main dangers to Black Caviar.

Also in the race is former Golden Slipper champion Phelan Ready, as well as Secret Flyer and Metallurgical.

Unfortunately there were a couple of notable omissions, mainly African Pulse which won up the straight over Karuta Queen during the spring and Sister Madly which has a fantastic winning record.

Still though expect the pressure to be applied to Black Caviar, this race certainly won’t be run at the sluggish tempo of the CF Orr Stakes.

Hay List will go forward and try and lead all the way and Buffering will be employing a similar race plan just off his shoulder.

Foxwedge and Temple Of Boom can both hold early position as well so Black Caviar may find herself around midfield from the gates.

She’s drawn midfield as well with gate five while Hay List is a little wider is seven.
