After months of speculation a decision has reportedly been made on the first mate for Black Caviar with the wonder mare expected to be sent to Australian Champion Sire elect Exceed And Excel for the 2013 southern hemisphere breeding season.

Although connections are yet to make an official announcement and managing part-owner Neil Werrett has failed to confirm the decision, it has been reported on social media and a number of racing websites that Exceed And Excel has been the lucky stallion chosen.
Exceed And Excel currently stands at the Darley stud in Kelvinside for a fee of $88,000 and is set to be named Champion Australian sire after an amazing season that saw his progeny earn more $11 million in prizemoney.
The progeny of Exceed And Excel dominated the juvenile ranks in Australia this season with Overreach victorious in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) and Guelph claiming the Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) and Champagne Stakes (1600m) double.
The success of Exceed And Excel this season is not a one off with the son of Danehill the leading sire of Australian juvenile winners for the last four years and the best sire of two-year-olds in the world from 2008 to 2013.
The 2004 Australian Champion sprinter now has a global reputation after producing Frankel’s greatest rival Excelebration, a three time Group 1 winner, and recording more stakes winners in 2013 than any other stallion in the world.
Exceed And Excel was chosen from a shortlist that included Redoute’s Choice, Fastnet Rock, More Than Ready, Casino Prince and Northern Meteor.
Black Caviar was retired in April this year after an impressive victory in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick took her record to a perfect twenty-five wins from twenty-five starts.
The equine superstar finished her racing career with fifteen Group 1 wins, the most by any horse in the history of Australian racing, and was named World Thoroughbred Rankings champion sprinter on three occasions.
Black Caviar’s connections are expected to make an official announcement tomorrow.
