Black Caviar to Bring Punters to Caulfield

A horse that is not even racing will be the main event at Caulfield on Saturday with thousands expected to flock to the track to see the world’s best sprinter Black Caviar strut her stuff.

The queen of the turf will be put through her paces by regular jockey Luke Nolen after race three which will take place at 2:05pm (AEDT).

Melbourne Racing Club are expecting the champion to be at her crowd-pulling best and have scheduled a day of celebrations at the super mare’s home track.

The six-year-old was last seen racing in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June but gave a hint last week that she still has what it takes to dominate Australia’s sprinting scene.

Despite being still not quite in race-fit condition, Black Caviar galloped strongly in an 800-metre jump-out at Sandown where she showed her usual zest for racing to dispose of her rivals comfortably.

Nolen galloped the legendary mare again on Tuesday and was happy to describe her as the “Black Caviar of old.”

”She’s tightened up a bit since the jump-out,” Nolen said.

”There’s still improvement to come and her work at Caulfield on Saturday will tighten her up again.”

Undisputed as Australia’s best racehorse, Black Caviar is on track for a return in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on February 16.

The rest of her autumn schedule is yet to be decided with trainer Peter Moody describing her as a “race by race” proposition.

The daughter of Bel Esprit’s awe-inspiring record stands at 22 undefeated starts including 12 at Group 1 level.
