Black Caviar trainer Peter Moody hinted this morning the champion mare could continue beyond her current campaign, stating that she is in the best condition of her career.

”I think she is going as well as ever, so maybe there is another season in her,” Moody told a large group of media in Melbourne.

“She’s been well looked after, well managed, patiently guided by her owners.

”Her last 10 runs have been her best, so I’m looking forward to getting through Friday night and then on to the TJ Smith in Sydney.”

Moody compared the six-year-old to other champion mares Sunline and Makybe Diva who both had more than 35 career starts.

Black Caviar will be having just her 24th outing when she strives to keep her unbeaten record alive in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night, making her a lightly-raced six-year-old.

The best horse in the world put the finishing touches on her William Reid build-up this morning, getting through an 800m gallop with race-day jockey Luke Nolen aboard.

”She worked lovely, a soft half mile and quickened up the running in the usual fashion,” Moody said.

Despite Moody’s confidence that the mare is at her absolute peak, Friday night’s mission comes with the usual caveat.

Moody said the owners were preparing as if it will be her final run and again warned any complication will see her retired.

Black Caviar will face just six rivals as she attempts to add a 14th Group 1 win to her resume in her first race at Moonee Valley since she took out the same race two years ago.

She is set to start the shortest favourite in a Group 1 race in 52 years, currently being offered at $1.04.
