Black Caviar Primed for 21st

Undefeated star Black Caviar will go into the Group 1 $500,000 Goodwood this Saturday an improved product from the one that stormed to an Australasian record-breaking victory in the Robert Sangster Stakes two weeks ago.

The super mare is chasing an astonishing 21st straight win and earlier this week astounded her training team in trackwork when running the last 400 metres of her trial in 22.26 seconds.

Regular race jockey Luke Nolen was on board during the Tuesday hit-out and is confident she will put on a show for the expected 30,000 strong crowd at Morphetville this Saturday.

“The work was first class and anyone who goes to Morphettville on Saturday won’t be disappointed,” Nolen said.

“I am very much looking forward to Saturday.”

The world’s best sprinter had a final trot at Morphetville this morning (Friday) and looked relaxed ahead of the race that should see her record an 11th Group 1 win.

She will run from barrier eight in the nine-horse field, a draw that pleases Nolen as it will allow the mare to stay out of trouble.

“I can do whatever I want from there and I can keep her out of trouble, more importantly,” Nolen said.

“She is a very easy horse to ride and I will keep her happy and hopefully she will keep everyone there happy as well.”

The Bel Esprit five-year-old will assume her usual position as odds-on favourite, currently paying $1.04 with most bookmakers.

It will be the final hit-out for the champion before she heads overseas to tackle the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot on June 23.

She was also earlier this week one of 57 horses nominated for the July Cup which will take place at Newmarket on July 14.
