Black Caviar easily wins the Schweppes Stakes at Moonee Valley

Black Caviar has extended her reign as Australia’s queen of racing by winning the $300,000 Schweppes Stakesat Moonee Valley today.

The brilliant five-year-old mare was never tested as she out-sprinted her competitors in the 1,200 metre race.

Stablemate Doubtful Jack proved the best of the rest to finish six lengths behind the superstar in second, while Here De Angels put his barrier issues behind him to place third.

Trainer Peter Moody expressed his relief after the race.

“It’s always good to put it behind you again,” Moody said.

“It looked that way on paper but you’re always that little bit toey that things can go wrong.

“She stretched out lovely.

“It’s a wonderful story, it’s a dream come true.

“It wasn’t much competition today for her.

“I’m just ever so grateful to be a part of it.”

Moody revealed Black Caviar would likely head over to Perth to compete in the Winterbottom Stakes on November 19.

“The owners have always looks very much forward to showcasing her to Australia,” he said.

“Perth’s very much in the picture as well.”

Jockey Luke Nolen was overcome with emotion following the race.

“It’s a little bit overwhelming… it’s Cox Plate Day,” Nolen said.

“To find this one it’s extra special.

“I know the ride won’t last forever but I’m enjoying it while it lasts.

“I’m just the lucky bloke on top because she landed in our stable.”

This latest win has seen Black Caviar equal the winning streaks of Australian racing legends Carbine and Bernbrough, who too won 15 straight races.

These horses, however, did not achieve this feat while being unbeaten.

Black Caviar now stands in good stead for her final Melbourne spring carnival run in the $1 million Patinack Farm Classic on Emirates Stakes Day on November 5.
