Black Caviar has been named the 2011 Victorian Horse Of The Year while trainer Peter Moody received the Fred Hoysted Medal

Black Caviar has beaten dual Cox Plate winner So You Think to be named the 2011 Victorian Horse of the Year.

The superstar five-year-old mare’s unbeaten run was enough to gain her 150 votes compared to So You Think’s 134.

Last year’s Melbourne Cup winner Americain finished in third with 28 votes.

Votes were also taken for Golden Slipper winner Sepoy, the now retired Zipping, Futurity Stakes winner More Joyous, Australian Cup victor Shocking and Crown Oaks winner Brazilian Pulse.

Black Caviar and So You Think both raced six times in Victoria during the 2010-2011 racing season, with each winning a total of four Group 1 races.

So You Think also won one Group 2 race during the season, while Black Caviar won two.

It appears that Black Caviar’s unbeaten race history and spectacular Newmarket Handicap win were the basis of her latest victory.

It was an exceptional night for trainer Black Caviar’s trainer Peter Moody who was also presented with the coveted Fred Hoysted Medal.

The Fred Hoysted Medal is presented to the trainer that the Victorian branch of the Australian Trainers Association names as the most outstanding trainer of the season.

Moody was thrilled to be bestowed with such an honourable award and was quick to thank the rest of his stable team.

‘I’m very fortunate to be surrounded by such a sensational team,” Moody said.

”I remember Des O’Keeffe (Jockeys’ Association chief executive) telling me 10 years ago to surround myself with the right people.

“I’m very fortunate to have selected the right people.”
