Black Caviar Kept Safe After Barrier Stall Switch

Black Caviar

Black Caviar with have a vacant barrier between her and Here De Angels

Black Caviar’s celebrity status appears to have led to her fellow Schweppes Stakes competitor Here De Angels being shifted in the barriers.

The eight-year-old-gelding has a history of acting up in the barrier stalls and Racing Victoria has gone to new lengths to ensure no harm comes to the poster mare of racing.

Black Caviar will still jump from her assigned gate of four, while Here De Angels will be shifted out from barrier five to six.

This will leave one spare barrier on Black Caviar’s right side.

Racing Victoria’s chief steward Terry Bailey insists the change was not made to accommodate the needs of Black Caviar, but instead only to ensure the safety of both horses.

“Whilst connections have assured us that the horse’s barrier manners are now satisfactory, based on the horse’s previous history here in Victoria we have decided to move it out one barrier as there are no runners drawn on its outside. This decision has the full support of the connections of Here De Angels,” Bailey said.

The barrier change comes after Peter Moody voiced his concerns about Here De Angel’s previous antics earlier this morning.

Here De Angels was previously banned from racing in Victoria due to his unpredictable and unruly barrier behaviour.

The horse received a warning from NSW stewards just last week after missing the start in the Listed Lightning Handicap at Randwick.
