Black Caviar Confirmed for Sportingbet Classic

Leading trainer Peter Moody has confirmed wonder mare Black Caviar will attempt to score her 20th straight victory in the Group 1 Sportingbet Classic at Adelaide’s Morphetville Racecourse on Saturday week.

The glamour five-year-old impressed in an 800 metre jump-out at Moonee Valley this morning and that was enough for Moody to confirm her as a starter for the 1200 metre sprint also known as the Robert Sangster Stakes.

“She pulled up well, she had a good blow but she’s coped with it all well,” Moody said.

“She is still big in condition but you’d expect that. She’s still three runs off her goal which is the Diamond Jubilee in mid-June.”

She will come up against her own sex in the Sportingbet Classic which provides her with an opportunity to post a 10th Group 1 win before returning to Adelaide two weeks later for the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap.

Moody is confident the two tough Adelaide hit outs will provide her with the ideal preparation before she heads overseas to contest the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in late June.

“The fact that she’s such a gross-doing mare, if I don’t give her the two runs she’s going to need a fair bit of work and they are Group 1s,” Moody said.

“Adelaide is the right option … she’s got two short trips on the truck to get there and she’ll come straight home after the first one.

“It gives her a three week window before she heads overseas.”

The crowds are set to flock to Morphetville to see the horse widely regarded as the best sprinter in the world on a day that will also feature the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m).
