Black Caviar and French filly Treve remain on top of the 2013 World’s Best Racehorse Rankings that were released by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities in London overnight.

Both Black Caviar and Treve were honored with awards during the 2013 Hong Kong International Meeting, for their performances during the 2013 racing season, but were officially named as the best performing horses of the year last night.

Black Caviar had just three starts during 2013, winning the Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington, the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley and the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) in Sydney, but did enough to earn a rating of 130 and finish as the highest ranked sprinter in the world for the fourth year in a row.

Trainer Peter Moody told TVN that he is delighted that Black Caviar continues to be honored for her achievements on the track, despite being retired for eight months and in foal to Exceed And Excel, and believes that the undefeated mare deserves the distinction of being the first horse to be named the best horse in a category four years in a row.

“It’s fantastic that she has been recognized again,” Moody said.

“It’s another reminder of what a great horse she was.

“It’s staggering and I’m continually amazed that she is recognized as a world champion eight months after she was retired.

“For her to be rated as the world’s best, top-of-the-tree again is unprecedented.”

Black Caviar was not the only Australian-trained galloper to be included 2013 World Thoroughbred Rankings; with 51 Australian horses among the 307 top-level performers that were included in the ranking list.

Pierro, All Too Hard, Reliable Man and Atlantic Jewel were all awarded a rating of 122 for their performances during the 2013 racing season and Pierro was named World Champion three-year-old sprinter for his impressive victory in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

It’s A Dundeel was awarded a rating of 121 for his dominant victory in the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m), while Epaulette was the next best Australian sprinter at a rating of 120 for his performances in the T.J. Smith and the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).

Fiorente was awarded a rating of 119 for winning the 2013 Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m); behind veteran stayer Red Cadeaux who given a rating of 120 for his brave performance in ‘the race that stops a nation’.

Other Australian-trained horses that finished in the top 100 of the 2013 World’s Best Racehorse Rankings include: Samaready (119), Sea Moon (119), Boban (118), Buffering (118), Happy Trails (118), Shamus Award (118) and Super Cool (118).
