Trainer Robert Smerdon is predicting big things for Schweppes Handicap winner The Kitkat Kid

Robert Smerdon is predicting big things for The Kitkat Kid, who won the Schweppes Handicap by two lengths at Sandown yesterday.

The Kitkat Kid now remains unbeaten over two starts, including a three and a half length win in his maiden win at Geelong.

Jockey Mark Zahra was aboard the three-year-old in both his winning starts and believes that things will only get better for the Gonski gelding.

“He is still a big baby, he can still get his head up,” Zahra said.

“I wanted to stay one out and one back so we could move into the race when I wanted to.

“It worked out well. He’s pretty smart.

“He gives me a really good feel. He clicks up well and I just love the way, when you first go for him, that he still doesn’t know what it’s about but he finds a quick two lengths easily.”

The Kitkat Kid was purchased for a measly $18,000 at the 2010 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and has already earned more than $25,000 in prize money in just two starts.

The horse is now sure to feature during the many three-year-old feature races throughout the spring racing carnival.
