Leading Sydney jockey Tommy Berry has maintained his stellar record at the Magic Millions meeting with a narrow victory on Noisy Ocean in the Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) at the Gold Coast this afternoon.

Berry positioned Noisy Ocean wide in the early stages of the race, with jockeys looking to avoid the inside on the Gold Coast track, and the Shovhog gelding worked home strongly in the final stages of the race to record a narrow win from Scorpio Queen and Dienekes.
The in-form hoop admitted that you generally can’t sit three deep and win races, but was happy to have recorded his second straight win in the Magic Millions Stayers Cup after winning the 2013 edition of the race with Gai Waterhouse–trained Kinnersley.
“You can’t do it most of the time, but he is a big tough horse and a nice big striding horse,” Berry said after the race.
“He got around the track great, he really likes this track and everytime he comes here he is barely away from the placings, and it was good effort; he fought it out nice and tough.
“I did it with Kinnersley last year and it was good to back up and do it again with this horse again.”
The win capped off a stellar training performance from Bryan Guy and Berry said that he was delighted to record a victory for the Guy family, who played a key role in the riding career of his father Kevin Berry.
“I have to thank Mr. Guy for the ride, he has given me a couple of rides for me today,” Berry said.
“I think that my Dad rode a winner for his father a long time ago, called Royal Paint, so it is good to ride a winner for him now.”
Guy has an excellent record at the Magic Millions meeting since transferring his stable from Rosehill Gardens to the Gold Coast fifteen years ago and, like Berry, was thrilled that they could continue the connection between their families.
“Tommy’s father rode a winner for my father many years ago, he was an apprentice for Dad, and it is great, we have kept it going,” Guy said.
“We set Noisy Ocean for this and Dienekes, because I didn’t think he would get a run in the stayers race, and he has run third as well so it has been a great day.”
Both Berry and Guy will be involved in the Magic Millions Classic this afternoon; with Berry partnering Echo Gal and Guy’s charge Stroak considered an outside chance in the $2 million event.
