Berry In Unusual 2015 Caulfield Cup Situation

Tommy Berry has been booked for two rides in the 2015 Caulfield Cup and the talented hoop may not know until Friday whether he will partner Quest For More or Trip To Paris in the Group 1 event.

Berry was originally booked to partner Quest For More in the Caulfield Cup, but the English stayer narrowly missed out on a place in the field and requires a scratching to earn a start in the race, while he was given the opportunity to partner Ascot Gold Cup winner Trip To Paris after original jockey Hugh Bowman was ruled out due to suspension.

Quest For More continued his Caulfield Cup preparations this morning as if he is going to run in the race on Saturday and Berry told the media at Werribee this morning that he was impressed with the way that the Teofilo gelding worked with blinkers applied.

“I was just asked to bowl over seven again and give him a click up down the straight,” Berry said.

“Unfortunately his partner went astray today and we didn’t get to work with a partner again, but he worked with a set of blinkers on.

“The other day I basically rode him the whole way around just to do three quarter pace, but today he travelled and I am very happy with the way that he feels.

“He is covering the ground nice and he is pulling up well in his wind.

“He is fit enough if he gets a run in the Caulfield Cup and he will be competitive.”

Trip To Paris is assured of a start in the 2015 Caulfield Cup field and Berry will take the ride if Quest For More fails to earn a start, while Glyn Schofield is on standby to partner the tough stayer if there is a Caulfield Cup scratching.

Berry also had the opportunity to have a look at Trip To Paris this morning and he believes that the Champs Elysees gelding has form that is good enough to be more than competitive in the Caulfield Cup.

“He looked an absolute treat,” Berry said.

“He has proved himself at the highest level right around the world and he finished third behind my bloke at Doncaster last start.

“They both stay and they are both lovely looking horses that cover the ground really well.”

Trip To Paris is currently available at 2015 Caulfield Cup odds of $31 with Ladbrokes, while Quest For More is priced at $41 to record an upset win.
