Rising jockey Tommy Berry believes that Sweet Idea is ready to win when she resumes in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Sweet Idea has not been seen at the races since finishing an impressive third behind Overreach in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) and was one of the most consistent juvenile performers earlier this year, winning the Group 2 Silver Slipper (1100m) at Rosehill and finishing second in both the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes (1200m) and the Magic Millions Classic (1200m) in Queensland.

The daughter of Snitzel looked sensational in a barrier trial win at Randwick on July 19 and although she failed to fire in her second trial appearance at Randwick, Berry told Radio Sports National that she is ready to run a big race on Saturday.

“Her first trial was very good but her second trial looked a bit disappointing and I thought that it was as well,” Berry said on RSN.

“But, it was on quiet a heavy track at Randwick that was chopped up and she has come through that trial really well.

Mark Newnham partnered her this morning in a bit of work and he couldn’t have been happier with her.

“She is really coming along nicely and she will head into Saturday’s run ready to win.”

Berry will be having his first race ride on Sweet Idea since he partnered the three-year-old in her debut win at Randwick last October and is excited to jump back on board the filly he believes can be a spring carnival contender.

“She was always a little bit of an underrated filly; she was always paying a bit of a price and defying expectations,” Berry said.

“She is a tough filly who is very versatile, which is always good in a horse.

“She will definitely be a big player this spring.”

The ultimate spring target for Sweet Idea is yet to be confirmed but she was included in the nominations for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m).
