The second widest draw in an 11-horse field isn’t expected to impact the chances of the five-year-old who has a tendency to get back in the field.

That was clear in the Group 1 Galaxy (1100m) in March when the Victorian speedster bombed the start before storming home late to win by 3 1/2 lengths.

The Jason Warren-trained gelding arrived in Singapore as a picture of health and in good form, having finished third to Black Caviar in the TJ Smith in his final lead-up run.

Assistant trainer Mitchell Beer told Singapore Turf Club on Wednesday the son of Bel Esprit couldn’t have settled in any better.

“I just can’t believe how well he is coping,” Beer said.

“He came here pretty much ready to go to the race so it is just a matter of keeping him ticking over and maintaining his level of fitness.”

Bel Sprinter will be out to follow in the footsteps of superstar sprinter Takeover Target who was the last Australian to win the race in 2008.

The winner of seven of 15 starts is expected to start as favourite but faces some tough rivals including Hong Kong’s Lucky Nine.

Lucky Nine was seventh at his last start in the Group 2 Sprint Cup at Sha Tin but is a proven top-liner, having won four times at Group 1 level.

The Caspar Fownes-trained gelding has drawn favourably in barrier four, one spot outside fellow top fancy Kavanagh.
