Bel Sprinter was back to his best behaviour and showed that he will be among the best sprinters in the Spring when he returned to the winner’s list in sizzling style in the Group 3 $150,000 Mitty’s McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley today.

Trainer Jason Warren and his team have had to put in plenty of work to coax Bel Sprinter back to his best after the five year old had thrown away many races with tardy barrier manners.

Bel Sprinter jumped cleanly for Ben Melham and took up a forward position before being strong in the straight to hold of the challengers of Platelet and Snitzem.

The Peter Moody trained Golden Archer finished down the middle of the track after looming up on the home turn but could only manage to run into fourth.

Warren will now set his sights to the Group 1 $500,000 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 26 in search of Bel Sprinter’s first Group 1 win.

“It’s tough bringing horses back from little setbacks, had to just roll with the punches, he’s here today and couldn’t be happier,” Warren said.

“All the hard work we’ve done working on the horse improving his manners more than anything, that’s worked. A big thrill.”

“He had to step up today. It was the right race to kick him off in. We’re going to the Manikato, it’s been my goal all the way through, I think Moonee Valley suits him.”

Bel Sprinter ran a sizzling 57.32 seconds for the 1000m,  just missing out on Miss Andretti’s race record of 57.22 seconds.
