Beaded will run in the Spring Carnival after talks of retirement
Peter Snowden has made the decision to continue Beaded’s career for another season after original plans to send her into retirement in time for this year’s breeding season.
Beaded finished a close second in Saturday’s Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara behind Yosei after winning the $600,000 Doomben 10,000 last month.
While it had appeared to be the right time to retire Beaded, Black Caviar was the one to change the trainer’s mind.
With Black Caviar set to have only a short Melbourne campaign before heading overseas, and Hay List out due to his reoccurring foot problems, Snowden feels the coming year may be Beaded’s time to shine.
“You never make plans around one horse but it seems Black Caviar may be going to England next year and there is a cloud hanging over Hay List,” Snowden said.
Snowden is pinpointing next year’s Brisbane Winter Carnival as Beaded’s final campaign before becoming a broodmare.
“Then we’ll aim at Sydney in the autumn and probably another campaign in Brisbane next winter before she goes to stud,” Snowden said.
Beaded’s successful racing career has already spanned 22 starts, with the four-year-old not once finishing outside the top four.
Another of Snowden’s best horses that will be back to contend the Melbourne spring carnival is this year’s Golden Slipper winner Sepoy.
Sepoy is set to be one of Darley’s biggest stallion prospects, and plans are already underway to extend his career to Europe.
The two-year-old’s owner, Sheikh Mohammed, is looking to win some of the best European races with Australian talent.
Peter Snowden believes Sepoy is his best option.
“The brief is to find top class stallion prospects he’s undoubtedly one of the best,” Snowden said.
“He’s an exceptional talent. Some of his wins as a two-year-old were unbelievable.
“He can run incredible time in his races. It takes a rare talent to do what he has shown.”
Sepoy has tasted defeat only once in his short career, finishing second in the Group 2 Todman Stakes on his way to the $3.5 million Golden Slipper.
