He’s a one time favourite for the Magic Millions Classic but now Fundido is simply one of the ‘other’ horses going into the race.

That may have changed depending on yesterdays barrier draw but as it turned out the Chris Waller trained runner now sits even more on the outer.

He came up with gate 16 before emergencies, that made worse by the incredible luck of the three clear favourites.

Dreifontein picked up 3, Sizzling in 6 and Amorino in 8 making the task tougher for the entire field.

Waller wasn’t looking to put a positive spin on the alley when questioned about it but he said in terms of race tactics not a lot changes.

“It is not what we had hoped for, you don’t like to draw bad in big races, especially at the Gold Coast,” Waller said.

“The plan would have been to go forward anyway, now we will just have to go forward and look for cover because you could imagine there will be lots of speed inside.”

After a scintillating debut Fundido rocketed to the top of Magic Millions betting before a below par Boxing Day run sent his backers for the hills.

Waller isn’t too concerned though after a trial last week hit all the right notes.

“His trial last Friday suggests to me he has improved and I think the winkers certainly worked,” he said.

Waller is hoping to become the first man to claim the Magic Millions Classic and the Magic Millions Guineas in the same year.

He has Subarc in the three year old contest and says while conditions may not be ideal there’s enough going for him to be a chance.

“He is a horse that has a tendency to begin slowly so drawing a good barrier is ideal because if he is a little slow he won’t lose too much ground,” Waller said.

“The Gold Coast is not a track that would generally suit a horse like him, he gets back and hits the line strongly but there is generally good speed and the step up to 1400m is perfect.”
