Trainer Pat Webster is praying for a substantial amount of luck heading into the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup at the Gold Coast this weekend, where his talented gelding Thankgodyou’rehere has drawn barrier 16.

Thankgodyou’rehere put in a gallant run to finish second to Atomic Force last start in the Group 1 The Galaxy, despite the heavy track.

“I was going to send him to Queensland for the Victory Stakes last week but after he trialled so well at Randwick we threw in a nomination and ran him in The Galaxy,” Webster said.

“It was a heavy track for the Galaxy and even though he had failed on a heavy track before I had a gut feeling he would run well.

“I’ve got no doubts he would have won the Galaxy if it was a dry track as he’s much better on top of the ground.”

Webster felt the wide gate was a cruel blow to Thankgodyou’rehere, with the trainer believing the draw to be the only thing standing in the way of his horse’s winning chances.

“I’m not sure what we’ll do from the barrier with God and it’s probably best to ask his rider, Rod Quinn,” he said.

No matter the result on Saturday, Thankgodyou’rehere’s main aim will be the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm on June 11.

The lightly raced five-year-old has won seven of his 12 race starts and has accrued more than $315,000 in prize money.
