Ballina The Latest Casualty In Drenched NSW

New South Wales continues to be battered by heavy rain and some of the state’s racecourses are struggling to cope with the inundation of water.

Major floods are sweeping through some areas and there’s little that can be done for infrastructure in the path of the deluge.

There are multiple cancellations and postponements for race meetings around New South Wales with plenty more on standby to make a decision depending how the weather progresses.

The meeting at Ballina tomorrow has been postponed with a track inspection this afternoon declaring it was not in a good enough condition to be used safely.

Taree has also been flooded completely with no chance of the track being fit for racing by the next scheduled meeting on Tuesday.

Port Macquarie will shuffle their dates as a result and it looks like their Sunday meeting will be pushed back to Tuesday in the hope it gives the track a chance to dry out.

Port Macquarie itself has copped it hard with 150mm of rain falling.

They will need clear skies over the weekend to ensure the surface is in good enough shape to go ahead with the Wauchope Cup meeting.

Providing the Wauchope Cup continues on Tuesday it will be extended to a nine race card due to the cancellation at Taree, nominations have been extended until Friday as a result.

The water at Taree is so high that the current water level reaches the top of the running rail.

There is a dam on site but it was no match for the sheer volume of water which has fallen over the last week.
