Bad legged mare Reconcentrate scored an initial Moonee Valley win courtesy of a perfect ride by Chris Symons in the Cleanaway Moonee Valley 150 years Hcp (1200m).

Symons led early but was happy to give up the front to Anklets who, after initially being caught wide, was given little choice.

Follonica worked outside of the new leader and kept the pressure on ensuring a good pace from the 600m.

By the home turn, Symons was off the fence and ready to challenge after Dashing Shadow, to his immediate outside, gave up before the turn.

Reconcentrate hit the front at the 180m and held off late finishers Sensational Report and Halo Miss Maher who both settled near the rear and were widest in the straight.

It was Reconcentrate’s first run in 16 weeks and unlike in previous spells, she has thrived during the break.

“She is lightly framed but put on 35 kilos during the break, she has had bad knees and bad feet in the past but is okay now,” trainer John McAdle said.

Symons put down the win to different riding tactics on the six-year-old mare.

“We have pushed her along in races and she was found wanting at her last campaign, but riding her more conservative let her relax better,” he said.

Lady Rock was blocked for a run in the straight and her run can be forgiven.
