Shoot Out will not race again this year after being unable to recover from a back injury

Group 1 winning galloper Shoot Out will not race again this year after being unable to recover from with a niggling back injury.

The four-year-old will miss out on a Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival campaign due to the injury, which is said to have plagued him for much of the year.

Trainer John Wallace said that Shoot Out’s owners, Graham and Linda Huddy, had opted to spell the horse for the remainder of the year to try and clear up the problem once and for all.

The High Chaparral gelding won both the Group 1 Randwick Guineas and the Group 1 AJC Australian Derby last year, however, was unable to continue on for a successful spring preparation.

Shoot Out attempted to salute at the highest level once again throughout the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, however, his back injury got the better of him and he did not perform at his prime.

“He’s always had a sore lower back and we’ve been able to manage him but it just caught up with him in the winter,” Wallace said.

“He’s spelling now and the vets’ recommendation was to have six months off.”

Shoot Out will most likely return for the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival next year.
