Trainer Gerald Ryan has confirmed that Bachman will return to the races in the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on September 13.

Bachman has not been seen at the races since he finished towards the tail of the field in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 26, but showed that he was ready to begin his 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign after performing well in a barrier trial over 1030 metres at Rosehill Gardens yesterday.
Ryan told Sky Racing HQ that he does not believe that Bachman is a winning chance in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) and he is confident that the All American colt will improve when he gets over more distance in races like the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on October 11 and the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington on November 1.
“He had a good hit out here this morning and he will run first-up in the Golden Rose,” Ryan said.
“He probably can’t win it, but it just fits in nice for where we will head with him.
“It is two weeks all the way through then to either the Norman Robinson or the Champion Stakes and then two weeks to the Derby if you wanted to test him that far.
“The way he is going, he is going like a 2000 metres, 2400 metres horse.”
Bachman made his racing debut with a fourth place finish behind Fighting Sun in the Listed Canonbury Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 15 and finished third in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1200) at Canterbury on March 5 before scoring his maiden race win in the IPad App Handicap (1300m) at Warwick Farm on March 20.
The promising colt made his black type debut with a most impressive victory in the Group 3 The Schweppervescence (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on April 5 before he failed to fire in the Champagne Stakes.
Ryan said that he learnt plenty from the juvenile preparation of Bachman and he confirmed that the three-year-old would be ridden quietly and given the chance to work home strongly in each of his starts this spring – just like he did in The Schweppervescence.
“He was a horse that was a bit hard to get a line on,” Ryan said.
“He doesn’t trial all that crash hot and I know early in his races we were riding him up on the speed and he was a little bit one-paced and disappointing.
“We went to Warwick Farm and dragged him out the back and he hit the line really good when he won and came to Rosehill and did the same thing.”
Bachman is currently available at 2014 Golden Rose Stakes odds of $26 in the betting market with Ladbrokes Australia.
