Sydney jockey Brenton Avdulla has been appointed to ride Secret Admirer in the Caulfield Cup (2400m) in what will be his first time aboard the dual Group 1 winner this spring.

Avdulla has ridden the Grahame Begg-trained mare in 15 of her 20 career starts including her Group 1 wins in the 2010 Flight Stakes and the 2011 Epsom Handicap.

Begg confirmed Avdulla’s appointment on twitter and also said Secret Admirer was settling in well to her Melbourne base at Flemington.

“B. Avdulla is the confirmed jockey for Secret Admirer in the Caulfield Cup,” Begg said.

“Secret Admirer has settled in well in her new surroundings at Flemington.”

The five-year-old will carry 53kg in the Caulfield Cup where she faces a steep step up in distance and her first career test over 2400m.

Secret Admirer has had four starts this spring, all in Sydney, and heads into her first race at Caulfield in reasonable form.

She finished in the top three in the Warwick Stakes (1400m), Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) and George Main Stakes (1600m) before running fifth in the Epsom Handicap (1600m).

The daughter of Dubawi is currently considered a $21.00 chance to win the Caulfield Cup, with Gai Waterhouse-trained import Glencadam Gold the favourite at $4.00.

Others at the top end of the Caulfield Cup betting market include Mark Kavanagh’s December Draw ($7.00), 2011 Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden ($9.00) and defending champion Southern Speed.
