Australian Oaks an Option for Adrian Knox Stakes Winner Waking Moment

Waking Moment has completed a perfectly-timed run to win the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) from Perfect Rhyme in a photo finish at Royal Randwick.

Waking Moment was only considered an outside chance in the Adrian Knox Stakes field and the filly appeared to be against the odds from the outset when she jumped only fairly and was settled towards the tail of the Adrian Knox Stakes field.

Experiencing a relatively carefree run in transit, jockey Jason Collett pulled the Authorized filly wide rounding onto the final straight and set about the task of running down the race leaders.

Producing a strong turn of foot, Waking Moment made up plenty of ground through the final 300m and bobbed her head at the right time to post a maiden career win in the Adrian Knox Stakes.

Waking Moment clearly required a run when she weakened to finish fifth in the Glen Miller Maiden (1200m) first-up on February 15th and over raced in the Shalaa At Arrowfield Maiden (1600m) on March 10th to finish seventh.

Perfect Rhyme appeared to have the Adrian Knox Stakes won 200m from home and was unlucky to be nodded out on the line.

Queensland filly Fallacy continued an impressive run of form by the Toby Edmonds stable to finish a credible third in the Adrian Knox Stakes, having only broken her maiden at Doomben ten days ago.

The winner of the Adrian Knox Stakes is allotted ballot-free entry into next weekend’s Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) on Day 2 of The Championships at Randwick.
