Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Matt Rudolph has revealed that he is hopeful Red Cadeaux will return to Australia for an autumn campaign that will include race starts in both Melbourne and Sydney.

Red Cadeaux returned to Europe after he finished sixth behind Flintshire in the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase (2400m) at Sha Tin on December 14, but Rudolph told TVN that connections of the popular stayer are considering bringing the veteran galloper back to Australia for races like the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 14, the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 28 and the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick on April 11 rather than sending him to Dubai for another tilt at the lucrative Group 1 Dubai World Cup (2000m).
“I’ve been in discussion with Leigh Jordan and Ed Dunlop and we are hopeful that Red Cadeaux will come back to Australia,” Rudolph said.
“He would only have the one race in Dubai where as a trip to Australia could include three races worth up to $4 million in prizemoney.
“The Australian Cup at Flemington is run at a track that he obviously loves and it would be tremendous to see Red Cadeaux run in a Sydney Cup.”
Red Cadeaux has made four separate trips to Australia since his first trip to the Southern Hemisphere, but he is yet to contest a race other than the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m).
The Cadeaux Genereux gelding made his Australian racing debut when he was beaten by a pixel by Dunaden in the 2011 edition of the Melbourne Cup and he produced his worst effort in Australia when he finished a credible eighth behind Green Moon a year later.
Red Cadeaux finished a gallant second behind Fiorente in the 2013 Melbourne Cup and he made history in the 2014 edition of the race when he became the first European horse to contest the race on four occasions and the first horse to finish second in the race on three occasions.
The nine-year-old has only recorded one win at the highest level of racing, when he took out the 2012 edition of the Hong Kong Vase, but he has performed strongly in races like the Group 1 Coronation Cup in England, the Group 1 Dubai World Cup (2013) in the United Arab Emirates, the Group 1 Irish St Leger (2816m) and the Group 1 Tenno Sho (3218m) in Japan.
