Aspect to enhance Blue Diamond chances in Chairman’s Stakes

Trainer Tony McEvoy is confident that Aspect will emerge as a top Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes contender after he runs in the Group 3 $150,000 Ladbrokes Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

A well as Aspect heading towards the Group 1 $1.5m Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 25, McEvoy is also giving his Snitzel colt Azazel and Fastnet Rock filly Roomooz to line up in the rich two year old race.

Aspect was the winner of his only race start in scoring a one and a quarter lengths win in the Group 3 $150,000 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) at Flemington November 5 with Azazel finishing in fourth spot.

McEvoy has a high opinion of Aspect heading into Saturday’s Chairman’s Stakes and said the form is looking good with Azazel resuming for an eye catching second to Property in the Listed $150,000 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) (1000m) at Caulfield on Australia Day.

“I think he (Aspect) will sit in the mix the same after Saturday as he does today. He is a pretty good horse,” McEvoy told racing.com.

“Azazel’s return franked that for me. I thought Azazel was outstanding really on Saturday in defeat, just got too far out of his ground.”

“They have come through together and their work has been very solid. I think Aspect will run very well.”

McEvoy has also nominated Time Awaits for the Ladbrokes Chairman’s Stakes and the Nicconi filly is also the winner of her only race in a 1000m 2yo Plate at Morphettville Parks on October 1.

Aspect is currently marked at $21 for the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes with Ladbrokes.com.au while Azazel is higher in the betting at $15 while Roomooz is listed as a $17 chance.

The Lindsay Park trained Catchy and last Saturday’s Canonbury Stakes winner Pariah head the market order at $8 ahead of Darren Weir’s Blue Diamond Preview winner Limestone at $9.
