Trainer Peter Snowden is confident Artistry has the class and form to overcome her wide draw and win the 2016 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm.
Artistry has been a strong and consistent performer for Team Snowden since her arrival from the care of Grahame Begg in 2014; subsequently posting a commendable six wins and three minors through a total of only sixteen career starts.
Having charged home for second behind fellow Tattersall’s Tiara acceptor Cradle Me in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago, Snowden conceded the Shamardal mare could require some luck in transit on Saturday but remains confident she will run out of her skin in the feature race.
“She ran really well and I was very happy with that going towards this race,” Snowden told Racing Ahead.
“She’s had a good prep and everything’s gone to plan so far. I would have liked to have drawn a bit better but in saying that, the way the track was last meet it could be to my advantage of draw a little wider.
“Her form will tell you she’s good enough. To have won as many as she has through as many starts as she had tell you she’s above average.
“The only Group 1 race she’s run in previously, she was just totally out of place really badly, she was wide and back and had a lot of work to do, and on the day it was impossible.
“I definitely think she’s up to the grade and I definitely think she’ll run well tomorrow.”
Posting three consecutive wins in minor Sydney races over 1500m and a mile respectively to end an impressive 2015 campaign, Artistry trialled well in the lead-up to her competitive return this time and ran a pleased fourth in the Group 3 Wenona Girl Quality (1200m) first-up on March 5th.
Charging home to beat a classy field to the line in the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1350m) on March 19th, Artistry failed to make much of an impact when eighth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) but responded with a pleasing performance for fifth amongst talented company in the Group 3 Godolphin Crown (1300m).
Placing fifth once more in the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) at Scone in what was her only other start prior to the Dane Ripper Stakes, Artistry is currently rated a $14 chance in Tattersall’s Tiara betting markets with Ladbrokes Australia.
