With English jockey Ryan Moore’s disappointing ride aboard So You Think in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes fresh in everybody’s minds, Steven Arnold is making a play to ride the horse in the Eclipse Stakes this weekend.

Arnold, who was the regular rider of So You Think during his Australian racing career, will be in Ascot in order to ride Star Witness in the July Cup in two weeks’ time.

The jockey’s manager Warren Huntley has approached Coolmore and asked them to consider Arnold for the ride.

“I spoke to (Coolmore Australia manager) Michael Kirwan and tossed our hat in the ring,” Mr Huntley said.

“Look, it might be a bit of a long shot, but he’s heading there (England) to ride Star Witness the following week so it will just mean Steven getting over there a week early.”

Mr Huntley said that Coolmore would be considering a large pool of jockeys for the coveted ride.

“They tend to use the best available. A whole lot of jockeys will be considered,” said.

The manager believes fellow Australian jockey Hugh Bowman may also be in with a chance.

“Hugh Bowman is over there and rode a double at Doncaster last night,” Mr Huntley said.

“He’s he ridden the horse before, maybe he’s a chance.”

Arnold rode So You Think on six occasions in Australia, with his only defeat being when the horse ran third in the Melbourne Cup.
