Anthony Cummings is hoping for a change of luck at Randwick this weekend

Anthony Cummings is hoping April’s third weekend of racing at Randwick may finally signal the change in luck he is desperately seeking.

He will saddle up Sister Madly in the Group 1 The Galaxy over 1100m and is very confident the mare can bring him a second top level victory during the Autumn Carnival.

His only Group1 victory to date came from the unlikeliest of horses with Zavite winning the Ranvet Stakes as a 100 to 1 outsider.

Since then though things couldn’t have got much worse with Smart Missile second favourite for the Golden Slipper before getting scratched at the gates.

The hotly backed two-year-old was scratched from the Sire’s Produce Stakes the very next week after damaging a hamstring during mid-week track work.

It hasn’t been all smooth sailing for Sister Madly either who herself was injured earlier on this season.

“She had a puncture in her frog [of the hoof] which got infected and that took a while to heal up,” Cummings said.

“We had to cut some of the dead tissue away and wait for it to regenerate.”

Despite this he’s more than happy with her current fitness and optimistic she’s around the same form that saw her claim the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes on this track on February 12th.

“Her work recently has been very good and goes into Saturday’s race in pretty much the same form that saw her win first-up,” he said.

Sister Madly has worked very well throughout morning track work and Cummings thinks the run of the race will go her way in The Galaxy.

“She was nice and settled this morning and hit the line very well,” he said.

“I’d expect they will be going along in the Galaxy so she should settle in behind them and hopefully prove hard to beat in the finish.”
