Another European to Join OTI’s Team

OTI Racing have added another European galloper to their ranks with Group-level performer Pakal expected to arrive in Australia by the end of February.

The German-bred horse is a Group 1 runner-up and Group 3 winner in Europe who will be aimed at races between 1600 and 2000 metres.

“Delighted to advise that 4yo Pakal, European G1 runner up and G3 winner has been purchased,” the offical OTI twitter account said.

Pakal will join Mick Price at Caulfield and OTI’s Terry Henderson said the organisation was “excited” about his arrival.

The newest member of the OTI team has won three of 14 starts and will be targeted at races such as the Cox Plate and the Emirates Stakes at the Spring Carnival.

He has an on-pace racing pattern which OTI believe will be beneficial as he makes the sometimes difficult transition from European to Australian racing.

OTI, who were founded by Simon O’Donnell and Henderson in 1999, have had plenty of success buying European horses in the past.

They have developed a knack for identifying overseas talent and among their success stories are Melbourne Cup runner-up Bauer and multiple Group 1 winner Manighar.

The Peter Moody-trained import was one of the stars of last year’s Autumn Carnival, taking out a Group 1 treble in the Australian Cup, Ranvet Stakes and the BMW.

One of their best local horses is Brambles who was last seen winning the Queensland Derby but has had an injury-affected career and is unlikely to be seen again until next autumn due to a tendon problem.
