Anniversary Stakes betting shake up with Kaepernick scratched

The betting for the Group 3 $175,000 Tattersall’s 150th Anniversary Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast today has had a major shakeup after the favourite Kaepernick was scratched this morning.

The Team Hawkes trained Kaepernick was one of five horses to come out of the final race on the eight race program and has reduced the field to only eleven. The other scratchings were Excellantes, Territory, Barbed and Lesley’s Choice.

Kaepernick had been sent out as the favourite at his last two starts when second at Rosehill on May 30 in a 1200m BenchMark79 Handicap and second again in the Listed $100,000 Coca Cola Amatil Hinkler Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on June 6 and was set to be sent out as the favourite again today.

But his withdrawal now sees the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Dothraki at the top of the market order with Ladbrokes.com.au at $3.40 just ahead of Target In Sight at $4.50 and Into The Red at $4.60.

Dothraki didn’t appreciate the firm track at Scone when eighth in the Listed $140,000 Arrowfield Ortensia Stakes (1100m) on May 16 at his first run under the Snowden banner.

But Peter Snowden has reported that the Mossman four year old has recovered from that run and will be more comfortable on the Gold Coast track today which has been rated a soft 7.

Dothraki has since won a 900m barrier trial at Rosehill and Snowden is confident that he is back on track to produce his best.

“He is in great order,” Peter Snowden told Racing HQ Saturday.

“He jarred up a bit from Scone first run back and I just gave him an easy time and he got over it.”

“He had a nice trial at Rosehill last Tuesday week, he trialled really well. It has brought him right on, his work on Tuesday before we came up was excellent and I do expect him to run well today.”

The Kelso Wood trained Into The Red is racing in fine form with a first up win in the Listed $100,000 Landfill Logistics Ascot Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on May 23 followed by a third behind Excellantes and Kaepernick in the Hinkler Handicap.

Target In Sight has also been around the mark at his two recent outings with a second in the Ortensia Stakes followed by a fourth in the Listed $100,000 POWHF Tommy Raudonikis OAM June Stakes (1100m) at Randwick two weeks ago.

The Peter Moody trained Office Bearer is also under double figures at $8 and is dropping back in grade after finishing a handy fourth to Ball Of Muscle in the Group 2 $175,000 Magic Millions QTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on May 30.

Tattersall’s 150th Anniversary Stakes market order at Ladbrokes.com.au: $3.40 Dothraki, $4.50 Target In Sight, $4.60 Into The Red, $8 Office Bearer, $9 Whittington, $12 Dances On Stars, $19 Rocket To Glory, $21 Final Crescendo, Star Lady, $26 Time To Plunder, $34 Enquare.
