Angel Of Mercy Chasing Perth Group 1

Connections of Sydney galloper Angel Of Mercy have decided to send the mare west in an effort to chase Group 1 honours at Perth’s summer racing carnival.

The four-year-old hasn’t won since May last year and connections are looking forward to getting her to a location where she will be able to train and race consistently on suitable dry tracks.

“Hopefully she’ll get back to the form she showed in her three wins on good tracks,” Managing owner Elio Galante told the West Australian.

Angel Of Mercy was Group 3-placed as a three-year-old in The Vanity at Flemington and won the Listed James Carr Stakes at last year’s autumn carnival in Sydney.

Galante described the daughter of Hussonet as a horse with “serious ability” and is planning on setting the bar high. Races on the radar for Angel Of Mercy include the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) and the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m).

“If she’s not up to it, we can drop her back to the fillies and mares’ races,” Galiante said.

Bought for $180,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, the rising five-year-old has won three of 17 starts and collected $174,000 in prizemoney.

Perth’s summer carnival has become a popular option for east-coast owners and trainers chasing Group 1 honours, with the feature races often perceived as “softer” than the east-coast Group 1s.

Also to recently be touted as a Railway Stakes contender is Adelaide gelding Conservatorium who is coming off a career-best campaign.

After running second in the Group 1 Goodwood at his home Morphetville track the five-year-old travelled to Queensland where he won the Listed Eye Liner Stakes and finished second in both the Group 2 QTC Cup and the Listed Centenary Mercedes-Benz Mile.
