Angel Could Bring A Magic Millions Double

Gerald Ryan could travel to the Gold Coast with a realistic shot at a prized Magic Millions double later this month

He needs a bit of luck to go his way just to get there but should that happen there’s no doubt he has the cavalry to do the job.

The horse with the question mark is Angel Of Mercy, his potential representative in the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas.

She won in scintillating fashion at Warwick Farm yesterday, dominating the field in the Schweppes Plate.

That gives her prize money totalling just under $50,000 and puts her right on the cusp of the order of entry.

“I’m hoping she has enough prizemoney to get her into the Guineas but it will be touch and go,” Ryan said.

“If she gets a run, she will be very hard to beat because this is a really good filly. I’ve always had a big opinion of her.”

If Angel Of Mercy were to sneak into the 3yo event she would perfectly compliment Ryan’s 2yo entry Amorino.

Amorino is one of the top three chances in the $2 million Magic Million Classic, a group of horses that’s well clear of their other rivals in betting.

He showed his ability with a big win at Rosehill last Saturday.

Not only would it be a nice double for Ryan, it’d also be yet another achievement for Perth based owner Elio Galante who has interests in both horses.

Among his resume to date include 2009 Golden Jubilee Stakes champion Scenic Blast, 2004 Victoria Derby winner Plastered and 2009 & 2011 Doomben Cup victor Scenic Shot.

While Angel Of Mercy’s nearly four length victory would have delighted connections on the weekend, nobody would have been more pleased than Brenton Avdulla.

Avdulla has endured a horror run in Sydney, this victory bringing to an end an incredible 59 race losing streak.
