Alma’s Fury unlikely to start at Warwick Farm

The prospect of a wet track at Warwick Farm on Saturday may force trainer Paul Murray to alter Autumn plans for Alma’s Fury.

Alma’s Fury is down to start in the Warwick Farm Handicap (1600m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday but Murray is happy to wait for the Apollo Stakes in three weeks if he decides to miss this week because of the rain affected track.

“He probably won’t be running because he won’t run on a heavy track or even if it’s slow,” Murray said.

“He just doesn’t handle it and his race is the last race of the day.

“I would say (if he doesn’t run) that he’ll go straight into the Apollo Stakes.”

Alma’s Fury has poor form on wet tracks and has been unplaced on slow and heavy surfaces and has only won once on a dead track from eight attempts.

Murray has also nominated Alma’s Fury for the Group 1 $2m Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 21.

“We did nominate him for it and he would get in on a light weight, so we’ll just see what happens,” Murray said.

Dual acceptor Unanimously will line up at Caulfield on Saturday after Canberra trainer Matt Dale decided on a Melbourne start.

The four year old was top weight in the www.tab.com.au Handicap (1000m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday as well, but Dale has opted to take on a field of smart sprinters in the $100,000 United Arab Emirates Stakes at Caulfield.

Dale also wanted test Unanimously around a corner the Melbourne way of going to assess where to step him out next.

“We just thought if we go to Sydney we’ll be taking on Karuta Queen. It’s still a very strong race in Melbourne though and we’re happy to see how he goes down there,” Dale said.
