Alma’s Fury To Be Unleashed By The Boss

Alma’s Fury is one of the many chances in tomorrow’s Rough Habit Plate at Doomben which came off worse for wear after the barrier draw.

In fact the gelding was nearly the worst of the lot when he was given gate 18 for his first trip into Queensland.

Trained at Kembla Grange by Paul Murray, the Brisbane mission wasn’t an easy decision to make for  horse which has only won one of his 11 starts.

In fact Murray was initially dead against jumping straight into a Group 3 field.

“The owners wanted him to come up for the Rough Habit so we made the trip,” he said.

“It’s going to be a big ask for the horse after Wagga and the trip up.

“I really wanted to go to Sydney next Wednesday but the owners elected that they wanted to go this way.”

Despite a horror barrier draw and relatively poor career stats, he’s a horse which always tends to receive a bit of support in the betting ring.

He’s never been far away in his runs and a narrow second placing last start in the Wagga Guineas gives every indication he’s starting to run into some form.

“He’s only won the one race but he carried 59kg out at Wagga, we drop some weight tomorrow so it’ll bring us right into it,” he said.

“I’ve stepped the work right up and he’s handling it ok.”

Also working in favour of Alma’s Fury is that he’s scored the gun ride of Glen Boss.

Boss is flying back from Singapore for the ride of Hay List and his addition gives Murray some confidence that the experience of Boss can overcome the bad barrier.

“His manager rang for the ride and I didn’t hesitate to put him on,” he said.

“I’ll just leave it all up to him form that gate tomorrow.”

There are no concerns about how he handled the journey north either and he’s settled in well to the new surroundings.

“He did some work this morning and felt great so he’s well,” Murray said.

A good run here would set up a full Brisbane campaign finishing with a Queensland Derby berth.
