Alma’s Fury Set To Resume In Group 2 Company

It has been revealed that Alma’s Fury will attempt to extend his winning streak to four in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes at Rosehill on February 25.

Alma’s Fury was originally supposed to resume in the Warwick Farm Handicap tomorrow, however, trainer Paul Murray has instead decided to wait patiently for the Group 2 Apollo Stakes.

The four-year-old gelding is not suited to a wet track and an expected slow or heavy-rated course would mean an immediate scratching.

“He probably won’t be running because he won’t run on a heavy track or even if it’s slow,” Murray said.

“He just doesn’t handle it and his race is the last race of the day.

“I would say (if he doesn’t run) that he’ll go straight into the Apollo Stakes.”

Alma’s Fury has remained unbeaten across his three starts this preparation, with his most recent win coming in the $70,000 JB Maher Memorial Handicap at Rosehill on January 14.

The Refuse To Bend gelding has won of his 17 race starts and has earned more than $145,000 in prize money so far.

Murray decided to nominated the horse for the $2 million Doncaster Mile in April in the hope that he is allocated a light weight for the race.

“We did nominate him for it and he would get in on a light weight, so we’ll just see what happens,” Murray said.

The trainer is yet to map out Alma’s Fury’s full autumn campaign.

“If he runs in the Apollo and goes well then we’ll poke along and pick out the odd race through the carnival,” he said.

Alma’s Fury comes into the autumn carnival with two stakes placings to his name, one being in the Listed Dulcify Stakes and the other being in the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes at Eagle Farm last June.
