All Eyes On Sepoy On His Way To Golden Slipper

Sepoy will use this weekend’s Todman Stakes as his only lead-up race to the $3.5 million Golden Slipper on April 2, 2011.

The two-year-old Elusive Quality colt has not had a race start since his overwhelming win in the Blue Diamond Stakes last month.

Peter Snowden, Sepoy’s trainer, felt that the five week gap between the Blue Diamond and the Golden Slipper was too long to ensure his champion colt would remain fit.

“Sepoy worked well this morning and running him on Saturday will ensure he is as fit as possible for the grand final (Golden Slipper),” Snowden said.

“He’s a natural athlete, runs amazing times, and enjoys his work. I can’t fill him up at home so I feel he needs this run.”

The trainer completely understands the form necessary to win the coveted Golden Slipper title.

“You need to be 125 per cent to win a Golden Slipper, you can’t be 95 per cent fit,” Snowden said.

Sepoy is currently odds on favourite to win the 2011 Golden Slipper, and a win in this weekend’s Todman Stakes could cause him to become the shortest priced Golden Slipper Favourite of all time.
