Young Morphettville trainer Michael Hickmott has travelled to Victoria with three horses this weekend and after Hillfire’s effort last night at Moonee Valley, things are looking promising.

Hillfire finished a close second to Exceed And Excite (955m) last night.

He ran out of time in the small straight but hopes are high for the next two.

Today Always Discreet competes in a $70,000 Women In Racing (1400m) at Sandown-Hillside.

And on Sunday it is over to Wodonga for the Cup with Irish import Cornish.

” The horses are going very well, so we thought we’d have a crack,” Hickmott said.

“I’m pretty happy to have three horses capable of racing in this company.

“I’ll be hoping any the next two will win.”

Hickmott rates Always Discreet as his strongest hope.

It is vying for favourtism with She’s Gifted  and Tariana in morning betting.

She finished an unlucky second at Morphettville a fortnight ago behind Exalted Lady.

The four-year-old mare’s ability can be gauged by her second in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Classic (1600m) in March behind Lights Of Heaven.

Hickmott has her in Victoria fully fit.

“She’s just a little trier,” Hickmott said.

“I was happy with her run last start, she gets in well Katelyn Mallyon‘s 3kg claim, the distance suits and everything is spot on with her.”

Cornish was good enough to run third in the Group 1 Juddmonte International (2092m) at York before being purchased by Lloyd Williams.

He, like many imports, he didn’t recapture that form for Williams  and Hickmott bought Cornish at a dispersal sale.

“Cornish probably went three-to-four lengths below what I expected last start, but that was trainer error,” Hickmott said.

“He’s a big, gross thing that needs plenty of work and has really stepped it up since and should run well.”

Cornish is a $7 chance with Tabsportsbet for the Wodonga Cup on at 3.52pm (EST) tomorrow.
