Adnocon Has Eye In Before Glasshouse Assault

Adnocon

Adnocon took out the Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich

Adnocon made it back to back Eye Liner Stakes in Ipswich on Saturday victories but he won’t be after a repeat of last year’s result in the Glasshouse Handicap.

The horse will travel to Caloundra in two week’s time where he’ll be looking to go one better than the second placing he left the Sunshine Coast with in 2010.

It was only the classy horse Woorim which stood in his way but things won’t be any easier this year as he’ll be back to defend the title.

Trainer Gerald Ryan is confident though that a tweak in preparation will be enough to turn the tables in Adnocon’s favour.

“As long as the track is dry he will go to the Glasshouse,” Ryan said.

“He was second last year to Woorim who he will probably have to face again.

“But Woorim has had a tough winter campaign and Adnocon hasn’t so hopefully we can go on better this time.

“I’m proud of the horse. I set him for the Eye Liner in January and it all worked out.

“He had had a great preparation and was fit to win first-up.”

Adnocon went into the 2010 Eye Liner on the back of two previous starts, this year though he was first up with only a couple of barrier trials to his credit.

On the other side of things Woorim has already run four races this campaign, however he has been impressive.

He won the BRC Sprint with one of the best performances of the carnival and the race tempo didn’t suit him when he was seventh in the Stradbroke Handicap.

The Glasshouse Handicap will be part of the Caloundra Cup Day program, the final meeting of the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

The crowds are expected to be out in force on the Sunshine Coast, much like the 25,000 strong crowd which packed out Ipswich on the weekend.

Eagle Farm also has one last hoorah with the Tattersall’s Tiara meeting this Saturday, the final Group 1 in Queensland.

Ryan is now based in Sydney but after spending a lot of time based on the Gold Coast he’s very happy with the way Queenslanders have embraced horse racing.

“I think it’s been a great carnival over the past few years,” he said.

“Last year we had Melito racing up there and it was even better but on the whole I think they have it right.

Melito was the winner of last year’s Tattersall’s Tiara, a race formerly known as the Winter Stakes.
