Adelaide Remains Steady in Cox Plate Betting

Yet to finish outside the minors over his impressive seven race career so far, classy colt Adelaide arguably leads the charge for the internationals at Moonee Valley this weekend but is surprisingly yet to herald much interest in 2014 Cox Plate betting markets.

Claiming an impressive total of three wins, three second place finished and one run for third since first appearing on course competitively in late 2013, Adelaide has received an ideal lead-up to the 2014 Cox Plate; capped by a strong run for third amongst classy in the Group 2 Prix Niel (2400m) in France on September 14th.

Understandably thrilled with the way the Galileo colt has kicked off what is sure to be a glittering racing career, Tom Magnier, a stable representative for renowned trainer Aidan O’Brien said that while yet to line up for a competitive start in Australia he is confident Adelaide’s recent globetrotting experience will pay dividends in the Cox Plate.

“Obviously as I said earlier today it’s hard to bring a horse out here all this way, but he’s been to America, to France, England, Ireland; he’s done a lot of travelling,” Magnier said after the Cox Plate barrier draw on Tuesday.

“It’s a huge ask but we’re here and he’s travelled ok and fingers crossed for a bit of luck.

“Racing in Australia is fantastic – it’s up there with the best in the world and to have the privilege of being invited out by Moonee Valley for a race like this it’s so exciting for Dad (connection) and everyone at home, the whole team we’re just very lucky and delighted to be here.

“We’ve seen his races up in Europe and America and fingers crossed that same thing will happen down here.”

Stamping his claims as one to watch when comfortably winning a minor over a mile in his native Ireland on debut in October last year, Adelaide returned to racing for second in the Group 2 Prix Hocquart (2200m) before charging home to win the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes (2011m) in May.

Running second to Eagle Top in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes (2414m) at Royal Ascot on June 20th, the colt out of Elletelle followed up a maiden appearance in the USA for second in the Group 1 Belmont Derby (2011m) with a maiden victory at the highest level of racing in the Group 1 Secretariat Stakes (2011) in August; seeing his quote for success firm significantly in early Cox Plate betting markets.

Charged with overcoming the relatively awkward barrier 13, Adelaide is yet to experience much more than a sprinkling of wagers for success in Cox Plate betting markets but has maintained position on the second line of betting at $6.50 odds with Ladbrokes Australia.
