Absolutely Masterful Victory In Australian Oaks

Absolutely grabs her maiden win and what a way to do it with a massive victory in the 2011 Australian Oaks.

It was a tremendous ride from Brad Rawiller who showed plenty of guts to stick on the rails despite the heavy 10 track.

Absolutely has run plenty of placers throughout her career but the three and a half length win in the Oaks gives her a huge $550,000 pay day.

Plenty of the credit has to go to the jockey and trainer though who went against the general thinking of the other connections and were happy to take the short cut and try their luck through the heavy ground.

“Everything went to plan and glad we came,” Trainer Michael Kent said.

“It looked a tough Oaks but she drew well.”

He admitted he wasn’t overly confident in her chances going into the race but was happy to take the gamble she’d handle the wet turf despite never having a start in ground anything like the conditions at Randwick today.

“She’s a really nice filly and there was the only question of the ground,” Kent said.

She’ll now be heading to the biggest races during the Spring Carnival in Melbourne.

“(We’ll aim her at the) Caulfield Cup now,” he said.

Absolutely grabbed the lead half way down the home straight and was never going to be headed proving the ground on the rails wasn’t as bad as many had thought.

“I walked the track and I said I’m really happy with the inside (of the track),” jockey Brad Rawiller said.

“It’s great to get my first Group 1 in the Oaks.”
