A cool Damian Browne ride on Detours denied the flying Karuta Queen another feature race victory at the Gold Coast in the Listed $150,000 Attwood Marshall Lawyers Silk Stocking (1200m).

While Luke Nolen let Karuta Queen stride away to a clear lead in the middle stages, Browne had Detours tucked away for one final run to line.

Nolen then tried to steel the race when he let Karuta Queen go at the top of the straight and just when she looked like hanging on, Browne lifted Detours to score a clear win.

Roughy Punch On was also strong at the finish while favourite Bound To Blush raced handily for Tim Clark but failed to figure in the finish.

The last time Karuta Queen visited the Gold Coast was two year’s ago when the Not A Single Doubt filly lead all the way to take the $2m BMW Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m).

The Peter Snowden trained Detours has been racing consistently in Group company and came to the Gold Coast following a fifth to Arinosa in the Group 2 $175,000 Belvedere Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 13.

“She’s in for a good prep and although it was a slender margin it was still a good win,” Snowden said.

Detours appreciated the drop back to Listed class and a start in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm at the end of the Winter Carnival is now on the cards, but Snowden is not convinced the mare is up to the top company.

“Her right level is around Group Three or maybe Group Two because she’s not quite up to Group One company,” Snowden said.

“I’ll keep her fresh and run in her about a month’s time in the Dane Ripper Stakes.

“She’s no world beater but she’s very honest and puts in all the time which is all you can ask.”
