The Goodwood will be the final Group 1 1 event held in Adelaide in 2017 and we may have saved the best for last.

Black Heart Bart won The Goodwood 12 months ago and he is back to defend his title in 2017.

History suggests that it is incredibly tough to win The Goodwood in back-to-back years, but Black Heart Bart is still on top of the betting market with Ladbrokes from Western Australian visitor Vega Magic ($6), Robert Sangster Stakes winner Secret Agenda ($7.50) and Darley Classic winner Malaguerra ($8.50).

There are a number of other exciting races set to take place at Morphettville right throughout afternoon!

2017 The Goodwood Day Results

Race 1 (12:30pm) – $100,000 Campolina Stud Handicap Results

Chase The Horizon goes his nose down at the right time to upstage So You Too in the Campolina Stud Handicap at Morphettville this morning.

So You Too started the race as a clear favourite following her third place finish in the Euclase Stakes and looked like the winner when she hit the front with 200 metres left to run.

Chase The Horizon kept on chasing and looked as though he just missed, but the judge controversially ruled that he got his head down at the right time to steal victory.

  • 1st – Chase The Horizon
  • 2nd – So You Too
  • 3rd – Floral Fever

Race 2 (1:05pm) – $200,000 Group 3 National Stakes Results

I’ll Have A Bit upstaged odds-on favourite Booker to win the 2017 National Stakes at Morphettville this afternoon.

Booker went into the National Stakes as a clear favourite and she received a lovely run in transit, but she failed to show the explosive turn-of-foot she showed on debut at Flemington.

The Written Tycoon filly was still able to hit the front, but she was unable to put the race away and it was I’ll Have A Bit that dived at her late to claim an upset victory.

  • 1st – I’ll Have A Bit
  • 2nd – Booker
  • 3rd – It’s A Myth

Race 3 (1:45pm) – $150,000 Listed Port Adelaide Cup Results

Time To Test upstaged High Church to win the 2017 Port Adelaide Cup at Morphettville this afternoon.

High Church hit the front at the 200 metre mark and looked like the winner, but he wobbled and was keen to dart back towards the inside.

Damian Thorton bided his time on Time To Test and he could not have produced his mount at a better time, with Time To Test finishing over the top of High Church in the final 100 metres to salute.

  • 1st – Time To Test
  • 2nd – High Church
  • 3rd – Unfurl

Race 4 (2:25pm) – $175,000 Group 3 SA Fillies Classic Results

Ana Royale made up plenty of ground down the outside to take out the 2017 SA Fillies Classic at Morphettville this afternoon.

Ana Royale went into the SA Fillies Classic as a clear favourite following her slashing third in the Australasian Oaks and she once again got a long way back.

Mark Zahra rode Ana Royale with plenty of confident and when she got to the outside she quickly picked up her rivals to score a very soft win.

  • 1st – Ana Royale
  • 2nd – Parthesia
  • 3rd – Smart As You Think

Race 5 (3:05pm) – $125,000 Listed Centaurea Stakes Results

Exocet finished over the top of Sort After to take out the 2017 Centaurea Stakes at Morphettville this afternoon.

Sort After went straight to the lead in the early stages of the Centaurea Stakes and Stephen Baster was able to control the race.

Sort After kicked clear from his rivals at the top of the straight, but he clearly tired in the last 100 metres and Exocet was able to grab him in the shadow of the posts.

  • 1st – Exocet
  • 2nd – Sort After
  • 3rd – Have Another Glass

Race 6 (3:45pm) – $250,000 Group 3 R A Lee Stakes Results

Burning Front outlasted Hooked in a truly epic edition of the 2017 R A Lee Stakes at Morphettville this afternoon.

Burning Front took up the running in the early stages of the race, but Hooked strode up to challenge him at the top of the straight and looked the winner.

Hooked was never able to get in front of Burning Front and the in-form galloper was strongest in the final 50 metres to claim his seventh win from his past eight race starts.

  • 1st – Burning Front
  • 2nd – Hooked
  • 3rd – Rhythm To Spare

Race 7 (4:20pm) – $1,000,000 Group 1 The Goodwood Results

Vega Magic justified a heavy betting move to win the 2017 The Goodwood at Morphettville this afternoon.

The Goodwood was always going to be a competitive race and that proved to be the case as there were a dozen winning chances with 200 metres left to run.

Vega Magic emerged from the pack at the right time with Craig Williams in the saddle and was very strong on the line.

  • 1st – Vega Magic
  • 2nd – Missrock
  • 3rd – Casino Wizard

Race 8 (4:55pm) – $175,000 Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes Results

Fuhryk took out the 2017 Proud Miss Stakes to deliver Craig Williams and Lindsay Park another win on The Goodwood Day at Morphettville this afternoon.

Fuhryk went into the Proud Miss Stakes as a clear favourite and she never looked like getting beaten after travelling just behind the speed in the early stages.

Williams finished the day with four winners after previously winning on I’ll Have A Bit in the National Stakes, Exocet in the Centaurea Stakes and Vega Magic in The Goodwood.
