2017 Stradbroke Handicap Results: Impending Wins

The 2017 Stradbroke Handicap Day results will be updated all afternoon long at horseracing.com.au and we can’t wait to get stuck into a massive day of racing.

The Stradbroke Handicap is the obvious highlight, but there are two other Group 1 races on the card in the form of the JJ Atkins and the Queensland Derby.

Darley Kingsford-Smith Cup winner Clearly Innocent is a narrow favourite in the 2017 Stradbroke Handicap betting market with Ladbrokes, while talented Kiwi filly Melody Belle is a dominant favourite in the JJ Atkins.

Race 1 (11:20pm) – $125,000 Listed Daybreak Lover Results

All Over Bosanova led from start to finish to record a tough win in the 2017 Daybreak Lover at Doomben this afternoon.

All Over Bosanova jumped from the gates brilliantly and took up the running, but was quickly challenged by the likes of Rare Occurrence and Chalk.

Tactical Advantage looked the winner at the top of the straight, but was unable to find clear running until it was too late and All Over Bosanova was able to hold him out in the shadows of the post.

Race 2 (11:55pm) – $100,000 Listed Hinkler Handicap Results

Miss Gunpowder held-off a flying Too Good To Refuse to win a thrilling edition of the Hinkler Handicap at Doomben this afternoon.

Miss Gunpowder received a lovely run in transit just behind the leaders and hit the front when she found clear running at the 200 metre mark.

The talented filly looked like something of a sitting duck in the final 100 metres as a host of rivals charged at her late, but the winning post came at the right time and she was able to add another black-type win to her racing resume.

Lindsay Park are desperate to win a Group 1 with Miss Gunpowder and she is set to have her next race start in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara at Doomben in a fortnight.

Race 3 (12:30pm) – $100,000 Listed The Wayne Wilson Results

Religify relished the return to a firm track to win the 2017 The Wayne Wilson at Doomben this afternoon.

Hugh Bowman asked Religify to work hard early to find the lead, but he was eventually able to take control of the race.

Moher challenged Religify at the top of the straight, but Religify was far too tough and never looked like being beaten.

Prompt Response showed an impressive turn-of-foot to take out the 2017 Dane Ripper Stakes at Doomben this afternoon.

My True Love took up the running in the early stages of the Dane Ripper Stakes and kicked clear at the top of the straight.

Prompt Response responded well when she was asked for an extra effort at the top of the straight and she finished over the top of her rival to score a nice win.

Race 5 (1:40pm) – $350,000 Group 2 Queensland Guineas Results

Salsonic stormed home down the outside to record a most impressive win in the 2017 Queensland Guineas at Doomben this afternoon.

Salsonic was the slowest horse out of the barriers and jockey Hugh Bowman was happy to settle his mount at the tail of the field, while Dreams Aplenty and Oak Door battled for the lead.

Bowman got Salsonic to the outside and the top of the straight and he absolutely stormed home to finish over the top of his rivals.

  • 3rd – Niccanova

Race 6 (2:20pm) – $600,000 Group 1 JJ Atkins Results

Capital Gain finished over the top of his rivals to record a maiden Group 1 victory in the 2017 JJ Atkins at Doomben this afternoon.

Melody Belle went into the JJ Atkins as a dominant favourite, but she was one of the first horses beaten at the top of the straight.

Capital Gain got to the outside at the top of the straight and he showed an outstanding turn-of-foot when Jim Byrne asked him for an extra effort to score a most impressive win.

Race 7 (3:00pm) – $600,000 Group 1 Queensland Derby Results

A Hugh Bowman masterclass helped Ruthven record a dominant victory in the 2017 Queensland Derby at Doomben this afternoon.

Ruthven started the Queensland Derby as favourite and there really weren’t any nervous moments for favourite backers.

Bowman eventually settled Ruthven in fourth position, but he took control of the race coming around the bend when he sent Ruthven to the lead with 500 metres left to run.

The positive move proved to be a winning play as Ruthven quickly put several lengths on his rivals and never looked like getting beaten.

Talented colt Impending deliver Darren Beadman a maiden Group 1 victory as a trainer with a strong win in the 2017 Stradbroke Handicap at Doomben this afternoon.

Corey Brown was happy to keep Impending wide in the early stages of the Stradbroke Handicap and he received a lovely trail into the race.

In Her Time kicked clear at the top of the straight and looked like the winner, but it was Impending that finished strong to take out the Stradbroke Handicap.

Beadman has only been in the top job at Godolphin for a couple of months and will be replaced by James Cummings in August, but now has a Group 1 win as trainer to add his 86 wins at the highest level as a jockey.

Race 9 (4:20pm) – $300,000 Group 2 Brisbane Cup Results

Chocante bounced back to his best form to win the 2017 Brisbane Cup at Doomben this afternoon.

Jim Byrne took Chocante straight to the front in the early stages of the Brisbane Cup and the Kiwi galloper was able to control the race throughout.

Chocante kicked several lengths clear at the top of the straight and never looked like being caught by a game Single Gaze and Pemberley.
