Caulfield Racecourse will play host to 2017 PB Lawrence Stakes Day on Saturday afternoon; the headline race card in Victoria this weekend.

All nine races on 2017 PB Lawrence Stakes Day have drawn classy fields, however we have analysed every horse set to step out in each, in order to help you find a winner.

The 2017 PB Lawrence Stakes Day action is set to get underway at 12:20pm with the running of the Pegasus Leisure Group Plate (1600m), while the feature race is slated for 4:00pm.

Race 1 (12:20pm) Pegasus Leisure Group Plate (1600m)

Nine horses will step out in Race 1 on PB Lawrence Stakes Day and it is an open race from a betting perspective. Hell Or Highwater (barrier 4) returned to winning form a fortnight ago and should prove extremely difficult to beat from an ideal draw on Saturday, with claiming apprentice Chris Caserta aboard. Dulverton (barrier 7) is rock-hard fit and has been racing extremely well, and she should find an ideal position off the early pace from barrier 7 on Saturday. Niminypiminy (barrier 6) does not win out of turn, but has yet to contest a race a mile this time and may enjoy the trip, while Not Only Florina (barrier 1) has yet to make an appearance in Australia, but was a smart performer in her native France and undoubtedly has the class to win this race, with in-form hoop Regan Bayliss aboard.

Race 2 (12:55pm) Legacy 2017 Badge Appeal Handicap (1100m)

Twelve mares have been confirmed in the field for Race 2 and there is a case to be made for more than half the field. Risque (barrier 8) has not been seen at the races for more than a year, but has reportedly found terrific condition since returning to work and is arguably the class horse of this field. Oregon’s Day (barrier 9) will also resume in the race, has conditions to suit and is a proven first-up performer, while Written Era (barrier 3) will only carry improvement into this race following a smart first-up win at Ladbrokes Park. Lyuba (barrier 5) is yet to be beaten first-up, has drawn ideally into this field and will carry only 55.5kgs.

Tip: No. 2 Lyuba ($5)

Race 3 (1:30pm) Beveridge Williams Plate (1100m)

There is winning potential across the entirety of the field for Race 3 on PB Lawrence Stakes Day and it is set to jump $5 the field. Fursa (barrier 4) will make her Australian debut in the race, but was outstanding in South Africa and will be offered every opportunity from an ideal draw and with Craig Williams in the saddle. Land Of Plenty (barrier 6) and Quilista (barrier 14) will both resume in the race, but have shown plenty throughout their respective careers and have trialled well in the lead-up to this. Saint Valorem (barrier 2) flew home to beat a classy field at Flemington last time out and if he is offered a clear racing line in the final straight this weekend, will prove extremely difficult to beat once more.

Race 4 (2:05pm) Ramlegh Springs On Clyde Handicap (1600m)

Several outstanding stayers will step out in Race 4 on PB Lawrence Stakes Day, including Big Duke (barrier 4). The Raven’s Pass gelding was outstanding in autumn; winning each of the Group 3 Launceston Cup (2400m), Group 3 NE Manion Cup (2400m) and Group 2 Chairman’s Handicap (2600m) before running third in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at his last appearance. His class suggests that he is the horse to beat in this field on Saturday. Guardini (barrier 6) will have his first start for Darren Weir in this race and will enjoy the conditions first-up, while veteran Foundry (barrier 11) is more than up to the class, should he find his best first-up. Petrology (barrier 3), Onpicalo (barrier 10) and Jacquinot Bay (barrier 5) all have a fitness edge and will enjoy a mile.

Tip: No. 2 Guardini – Each Way ($15/$4.30)

Race 5 (2:40pm) Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m)

The first black type race on PB Lawrence Stakes Day has drawn an outstanding field of three-year-old fillies. The Quezette Stakes is often used as the first point of call for fillies targeting the Thousand Guineas and that is certainly the case this year, with the likes of Catchy (barrier 5), Tulip (barrier 6) and Arctic Angel (barrier 2) all confirmed as starters. Winner of the Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) most notably, Catchy has posted four wins from her five starts and is the horse to beat in the Quezette Stakes. Tulip is a black type winner and one of the more consistent two-year-olds of the current crop and offers punters the best value for money in Quezette Stakes betting markets, while Arctic Angel has trialled well in the lead-up to this race and is ready to fire first-up.

Tip: No. 1 Catchy ($2.50)

Race 6 (3:20pm) Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m)

Thirteen horses remain in contention for the Vain Stakes following the early scratching of King’s Authority. Jukebox (barrier 6) showed outstanding ability through his short two-year-old campaign and is probably the horse to beat after trialling well, while Kobayashi (barrier 13) will also contest the race first-up, but will need luck from the outside gate. Godolphin colt Veranillo (barrier 2) could receive the run of the race from his inside draw, is a proven first-up performer and has reportedly furnished into a bigger horse ahead of his spring campaign. Cliff’s Edge (barrier 9) and Lone Eagle (barrier 5) have both shown good ability and have a fitness edge over several leading contenders.

Tip: No. 2 Veranillo – Each Way ($9.50/$3.10)

Race 7 (4:00pm) Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m)

The feature race has drawn an outstanding field of twelve and there is a case to be made for nearly every runner. Black Heart Bart (barrier 5) is yet to taste anything but success over the 1400m course at Caulfield and should be extremely tough to beat, but he undoubtedly faces his biggest to date under the conditions in the form of Hartnell (barrier 9). The Authorized gelding has been one of the country’s best throughout the last twelve months and he is more than capable of a dominant win first-up in the PB Lawrence Stakes. Tosen Stardom (barrier 13) has relished his time in the paddock and will enjoy the conditions of this race first-up, while there is a case to be made for the resuming Humidor (barrier 3), He’s Our Rokki (barrier 4) and Amelie’s Star (barrier 1).

Tip: No. 2 Hartnell ($3.20)

Race 8 (4:40pm) Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m)

A classy field of sprinters has been drawn to this year’s Regal Roller Stakes, including Vega Magic (barrier 11). The former Perth galloper flew home to win the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) in his first start for Linsday Park in May, but will have to overcome a race-high 60.5kgs. Fellow former West Coaster Chocolate Holic (barrier 13) failed to fire first-up, but will have taken plenty of benefit from the run and will appreciate a firmer track. Schism (barrier 9) is seeking a fourth-consecutive race win but undoubtedly steps up in class into this, while Lord Da Vinci (barrier 4) should have no issue taking up the running from an inside draw and will be tough to run down late. Japanese import Brave Smash is the unknown quantity in this race, but was outstanding in his homeland and is more than capable at the class.

Tip: No. 6 Lord Da Vinci – Each Way ($9/$3)

Race 9 (5:15pm) TheBigScreenCompany.com.au Plate (1400m)

A capacity field has been confirmed for the final race on 2017 PB Lawrence Stakes Day. Divine Mr Artie (barrier 4) has a fitness edge on most of his rivals here and has drawn ideally into this field, while Portman (barrier 9) should be able to find a position just behind the pace and is rock-hard fit. Revolving Door (barrier 18) failed to fire last start and has been slapped with a tough draw this weekend, but he is one of the class horses of this field and will be tough to get a run, should he gain a start as second emergency. Tiamo Grace (barrier 20) has been charged with overcome the outstide gate, but she was outstanding last spring and is a live chance once more.
